Permanent wave strand test.

A strand test before a permanent wave is a good idea also; poor
performance is recognised straight away as a result of something on the
client’s hair, taking medication or having hospital treatment.

Any of the above then advise your client to delay perming until
everything has returned to normal, eliminating the risk of doing a bad
                   perm.

The test is simple just apply one curler in the nape of the client’s neck test
after ten minutes to see the depth of the curl formation.

Apart from a deep curl formation you are also looking to see when the
hair separates into five individual strands, this will tell you that the hair is
reformed without over processing. (Fig 35.)
