CARL SITTER CAMP, Shenandoah Valley
Chapter #543, Thomas E. Kivlehan, Jr., Secretary.
On May 1, 2024 members of the Carl L. Sitter
Camp and Camp Followers, Charlie Davis, Wanda
Lawson, and Irene Mertens presented a “Fold the
Flag” program to Unity Lodge #146, Front Royal,
VA. It was a regular meeting night for the Lodge
and before the program a light supper was in order.
After having a nice lunch and a chance to talk with
some of the Lodge members, the Fold A flag
program was given. Commander Charlie Davis
began his program as usual with the introduction of
our group and then gave a talk on how the flag
should be displayed and when it should be used. He L-R: Charlie Davis, Wanda Lawson, and Irene Mertens
offered recorded bugle signals that indicated to the
military when to pay attention and listen for further orders, when to come to order for the raising of the flag in
the morning, and the lowering of the flag in the evening. Camp Followers Wanda and Irene then proceeded to
fold the flag properly as Charlie narrated the meaning of each fold and what it represented. Taps were played
at the end of the program. The Master of Unity Lodge thanked us for our presentation, and we were shown
much appreciation for our efforts that evening.
