KNICKERBOCKER – WEST POINT #13, LTC Jack H. Moore, Secretary.
Mother Nature and 5 inches of snow caused the Brothers of Chapter #13 to cancel their Sunday, 9 February
brunch at the ’76 House in Tappan, NY, the oldest Tavern in America. This tavern was a gathering place for
General George Washington and his fellow Revolutionaries. Despite canceling their meeting several brothers
gathered early after shoveling snow to start “pre-gaming” for the Super Bowl. Pictured is Brother Robert
McLoughlin sharing a tray of chicken wings. The Brothers agreed to hold their next meeting on Sunday 4
May at the Thayer Hotel at West Point for an early Mother’s Day celebration. At the meeting the Chapter will
hold elections with all officers agreeing to remain in their current positions for another year. They will also
present Sojourner certificates and dues cards to two new members. This spring the Chapter will continue to
support local high school and college ROTC units presenting the ROTC Sojourner Medal & Certificate. Last
year a medal and $200 scholarship was presented to a JROTC cadet at
James I. O’Neill High School that supports the students living at West Point.
This year rather than selecting an individual cadet, the Chapter will select one
of the 16 units it supports and at its awards ceremony when a Sojourner
presents the JROTC Sojourner Medal, the presenter will also make a $200
donation to the Senior Military Instructor, so funds can be utilized to benefit
all cadets of the unit. A different unit will be selected yearly. Hope to see
you at 1100 on 4 May for brunch and an early Mother’s Day celebration at the
Thayer Hotel.
