However, there is a dire need for NNPM to be reviewed and
strengthened in line with the rapid changes in dietary
patterns and the increase of the double burden of
malnutrition among Malaysians, which may affect their
nutritional well-being. It also considers nutrition-related
commitments and strategies at the national level including
the Five-Year Malaysia Plan and the Shared Prosperity
Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) (MEAM, 2019). It also considers
global commitments such as the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) 2015-2030, the Rome Declaration II on
Nutrition and Framework for Action and Global Nutrition

The importance of good nutrition to the overall health
status is well recognised. In order to maintain good health,
access to adequate, nutritious, safe and quality foods as
well as informed choices of healthier foods should be
ensured. This needs commitment and concerted efforts
from various sectors. A nutrition policy, therefore provides
the platform for inter-sectoral coordination and synergy
towards achieving optimum nutrition for all.
