P. 2

Executive Summary of Recommendations

Information technology exists to support the mission of The Regent Schools as outlined by the Schools
Board expectations. Investments in information technology are driven principally by the desire to

improve the way work is done; to improve decision making; to adhere to various laws, regulations, and
policies; and to help the school manage its risks. The recommendations in this report serve as the
foundation for strategically investing in IT resources and to facilitate the work of the Head of Digital
Learning and the IT Managers of The Regent Schools in consultation with the IT Consultant.

IT governance recommendations have been suggested and developed and hereby presented to the

Board of The Regent School, Heads of School and IT Managers to build on the recommendations and
continue to develop IT governance concepts, vision, principles, and organizational structures.

Nine major IT themes were identified after discussing with IT staff, Heads of School and staff in general
across schools regarding IT opportunities for improvement:

Theme 1: The Role of the Head of Digital Learning and the IT Consultant.
The Regent Schools rely on information technology to enhance teaching and learning and to provide
administrative support. Making appropriate IT investments requires the IT team to make good decisions.

The Head of Digital Learning, in collaboration with the IT Consultant, will continue to develop and
implement a process that provides strategic leadership and oversight of information technology
resources across schools, establishes school wide IT priorities, and fosters accountability and
           transparency.

Theme 2: Establish a Sustainable IT Cost
The Board requires maximum value from each dollar spent on information technology. In consultation
with the IT Consultant, the Head of Digital Learning will establish a transparent, trusted, and sustainable

costing, pricing, and funding model that accounts for the total cost of developing, providing, and
maintaining local and central IT services across schools and provides a sustainable economic model for IT
services. This is a task that will require the Board's and all Bursars' participation.

Theme 3: Create a Clear Strategy for Instructional Technologies

Academic staff, students, and parents all require access to appropriate information technology services in
order to enable and improve the diversity of teaching and learning modalities. The information technology
department and the academic team will determine the required teaching and learning technology services,
as well as their appropriate price, and will also ensure the sustainability of such policies and infrastructure.
