Elegy For Our Fallen
A Poem by Olumorewa Awobokun (Year 10 Congo)
They answered duty’s call, our tearful plight,
To protect our nation, day and night
Through jungles, deserts, they bravely strode,
Into the unknown, where dangers bode.
Through painful conflicts, bodies lying,
They gave their lives to stop our crying
A sacrifice profound, a debt we must repay,
To honor those who fell along the way.
Heroes lost, a heavy price,
Yet honor shines in sacrifice.
Wounds will always linger, and the cost was dear,
But their memory lives on, forever held near.
So let us pause, let’s bow our heads,
And honor them, the fallen, dead.
For in their valor, we remain free,
The valiant few, for you and me.
