The Project Proponent shall agree and fully commit in initiating the proposed mitigation
works to implement the Wildlife Impact Study Report’s recommendations. PERHILITAN can
enforce and, if necessary, prosecute Project Proponents who do not comply with the Wildlife
Impact Study’s approval conditions or disobey the regulations gazetted under the Wildlife
Conservation Act 2010. Examples of mitigating measures for selected significant impacts
predicted in the proposed area during the pre-construction, construction and operation phase are
outlined in Table 7.1.
Table 7.1. Examples of mitigation measures according to development phases.
Development Development Significant Mitigation
Phase Activity Impacts Measures
Pre- Road Disturbance to wildlife
construction construction
Vertebrate Avoid felling of nesting trees and
fauna other possible habitats for
nesting and foraging
Habitat loss Proper sustainable forest
Terrestrial/aquatic management practice;
habitat protection of catchment areas;
proper erosion control measures
Endangered, endemic Directional felling of timber
or protected plant trees; establishment of
species conservation areas
Disturbance to wildlife Avoid felling of nesting trees,
Birds fruiting trees and other possible
trees for nesting and foraging
Construction Land clearing
Mammals, reptiles, and Well plan logging phases to
amphibians allow animal to migrant or move
to the forested areas
Fish and other aquatic Implementation of erosion
life control measures; preserve
catchment areas
Disorientation and Phasing the construction
displacement of wildlife activities
Pollution and pollutant Implementation of erosion
Fish and other aquatic control measures; preserve
life catchment areas
Operation Habitat fragmentation
or barrier
Wildlife roaming and Placement of alignment as close
movement Reduction of or along the forest boundary
wildlife population size Ecological corridor or forest
connectivity
Human-wildlife conflict Electric fencing
Road-kills Developing exact locations of
road signs
Illegal activities Wildlife enforcement and
