Round Turn and Two Half Hitches
This is an ideal way of making a ship’s
mooring line fast to a post or ring, the
round turn taking a lot of the strain
and the two half hitches making all
secure. The two half hitches should
always be made in the same direction
and form a clove hitch round the
standing part. Under most conditions
and with care the round turn and two
half hitches can be released even when
there is strain on the standing part of
the rope.
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
1 Take the working end of the rope round
the branch two turns making a full round
turn.
2 By bringing the working end round
behind the standing end and tucking a
half hitch is made.
3 Bring the working end round the standing
end and tuck to make a second half
hitch.
4 Pull tight to finish knot.
