Fisherman's or Anchor Bend

It is strange that this variation on the round turn and two half hitches should

be called a bend rather than a hitch. The way that the first half hitch is passed
through the round turns gives a great deal more permanence and bestows upon

it the right to be called a bend. This knot is often used to make a rope fast to an
anchor or mooring buoy; for added security it is a good idea to seize the
working end to the standing part.

1 Take the working end of the rope round

the branch two turns, making a full round
                   turn.
2 By bringing the working end round

behind the standing end and tucking
through the first turns, make what is a

                   trapped half hitch.
3 Take the working end round the standing

part and tuck, so making a second
half hitch this time outside the round
                   turns.

               4 The finished knot.
