Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
1 Take the working end round the timber,
then round the standing part of the rope.
2 Twist the working part round itself by
making tucks round with the working end.
3 Continue making up the twist until it is
about long enough to go round the
timber. Pull on the standing part to tighten
the hitch.
4 The finished knot with a half hitch made in
the standing part round the timber in the
direction that the log will be pulled.
