Back Splice and Tapering a Splice
3 Work the strand into a neat position by
pulling tight, but not so tight as to distort
the rope.
4 Move round the crown to the next strand
and tuck this over one and under one
strand.
5 Move to the last of the three strands and
tuck that over one and under one strand.
6 This completes the first series of tucks.
The strands should all come out from
under a separate strand and should all
be on the same level.
7 Make another series of tucks starting with
any strand going over one and under one
strand.
8 Complete a full second series of tucks;
again, the strands should all come out
from under a separate strand and should
all be on the same level.
9 Three complete sets of tucks should be
sufficient.
10 Trim the end but not too close.
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
