Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
1 Make a bight in the whipping twine and
wrap round the base of the bight. There
should be a short tail coming out from
under the binding.
2 Continue to make tight turns round the
rope, working up toward the end of both
the bight and the rope.
3 When the wrapped turns of the whipping
twine form a long enough whipping, pull
extra tight. There should still be a bight
sticking out of the whipping.
4 Tuck the working end of the whipping
twine through the bight.
5 Keeping tension on the working end of
the whipping twine, pull the short tail so
as to trap the working part.
6 By pulling very hard on the tail the
trapped working part will be pulled into
the middle of the whipping.
7 Trim the ends of the whipping and the
rope.
8 The finished whipping.
