In the title role that she knows well from having frequented him several times since
his debut, Elena Tsallagova let flourish a lyrical soprano voice that has taken with
the years of consistency and relief. His Fox mutinous and endowed with a frank
assurance does not cease to delight the audience. The treble rises with brilliance and
frankness in a voice that has retained the freshness of its timbre and now shows a
new authority.
At his side, the Golden Coat Fox played by the mezzo-soprano Angela Brower shines
brightly with a brilliant vocal material and a remarkable stage presence. The treble a
little metallic - which is not a defect here - harmonizes fully with that ofElena
Tsallagova. The wonderful duet of the encounter between the Fox and the Fox takes
with these two performers a striking relief.
Roland Wood gives the character of the Gamekeeper a certain and yet benevolent
authority at the end of the book. His wide and assertive baritone voice, with a timbre
full of virility, imposes itself and he infuses a lot of humanity in his last scene. The
innkeeper is embodied by the tenor of character Robert Murray who also takes care
with aplomb and humor of the Schoolmaster and the Mosquito.
