                                   Chapter 5 - Lesson 5                                                                ה רמאמ - י ֶעי ֶב ְר ר ִר ִׁ

             he had no intent to hurt her emotionally, he was late only because
             the  lecture  was  longer  than  usual.    Nevertheless,  a  devastating              .תֶי ַבּ ַה  פַי ְנ ֶב ְל  ה ָנּכ ְנּ ַה  תי ֶתּ ְֶ ַתּ ַה  ת ִא  ת ִר ִצּי ְו  ,ּתּ ְֶ ֶא  ל ִא
             punishment followed immediately because of the emotional hurt                         י ֶנ ָע ִה  ת ִא"  :ל" ַז ַר  י ֵר ְב ֶדּ  ת ִא  ]'ב  פ ָמי ֶס  'ב  ר ִר ִׁ[  לי ֵע ְל  וּנא ֵב ֵה
             he caused his wife. The Gaon Rabbi Chayim Shmuelevitz ZT”L
             asked – Did his death save his wife from her hurt?!  If not for his                   ה ָא ָבּ ּז ה ָל ֲע ַמ ."י ֶנ ָע ה ָתּ ַא וּלּ ֶא ְכּ ךָ ְמ ְצ ַע ְבּ ל ֵכּ ַתּ ְס ֶמ י ֵו ֱה - ךְ ָמּ ֶע
             punishment her husband would have merely returned home late, yet                      פַי ְנ ֶבּ ."ּר ֵב ֲח ם ֶע לֹע ְבּ אֹ ֵשּנ" ת ַדּ ֶמ י ֵדְי ל ַע הּ ָתוּמ ֵל ְֶ י ֵדי ֶל
             now her husband was gone forever!  The explanation is – Chazal
             are teaching us a lesson that this is an uncompromising spiritual                     ם ֵה ָה םי ֶמָיּ ַבּ י ֶהְי ַו" :]א"י ,'ב תּמ ְֶ[ ה ֶָ ָר ָׁ ַה אי ֶה ּז ה ָדּ ֶמ ְל ב ָא
             law and that the punishment for emotional oppression even under                       :י" ֶֶ ַר ֶ ֵר ֵפוּ .'וּכ ְו "ם ָתלֹ ְב ֶס ְבּ א ְרַיּ ַו וי ָח ִא ל ִא א ֵצֵיּ ַו ה ִֶֹמ ל ַדּ ְגֶיּ ַו
             these inadvertent circumstances is immediate,  no different than                      ."ם ִהי ֵל ֲע  ר ֵצ ֵמ  תּי ְה ֶל  ּבּ ֶל ְו  וי ָני ֵע  פ ַת ָנ  -  ם ָתלֹ ְב ֶס ְבּ  א ְרַיּ ַו"
             anyone who violates a law of nature will be harmed.  If someone
             is standing near the edge of a river and is not careful and a strong                  ,]י" ֶֶ ַר ם ֶָ פֵיּ ַע[ רֹ ַש ְל ה ָנּ ַמ ְת ֶנ ְו הֹע ְר ַׁ תי ֵב ְבּ ה ָלּ ֻד ְג ֶל ה ָל ָע ה ִֶֹמ
             wind blows it will push him over into the water, so too this starkly                  ל ִֶ ם ָר ֲע ַצ ְבּ ל ַעֹפ ְבּ ף ֵתּ ַתּ ְֶ ֶה ְל י ֵד ְכּ פּמ ְר ַא ָה ֵמ א ָצָי אוּה ם ָלוּא
             uncompromising spiritual law will devastate him for the emotional
             oppression of his wife. 18 17  The Gaon Rabbi Chayim would often say                  ,"ם ָתּל ְב ֶס ת ִא א ְרַיּ ַו" בוּת ָכּ אלֹ .]ה ָבּ ַר תּמ ְֶ ֶבּ ם ֶָ פֵיּ ַע[ ל ֵא ָרֹ ְשֶי
             “An offense between one person and another is a fire that burns.”                     ּבּ ֶל ְו וי ָני ֵע ת ִא סי ֶנ ְכ ֶה ִֶ י" ֶֶ ַר ד ֵמּל ה ִזּ ֶמ ,"ם ָתלֹ ְב ֶס ְבּ" א ָלּ ִא

                                                                                                   ךְ ִר ִד ְבּ ."וי ָני ֵע ת ִא פ ַת ָנ" - פֶּא ֶר ר ָב ָדּ .ל ֵא ָרֹ ְשֶי ל ִֶ ם ָל ְב ֶס ְבּ

                                                                                                   ר ַר פי ֶח ְב ַמ אוּה ה ִאּר ִשּׁ ה ַמ ל ָכ ְבוּ ,ּמ ְצ ַע ם ֶע רוּס ָע ם ָד ָא ל ָל ְכּ
                                                                                                   ם ֶע לֹע ְבּ אֹ ֵשּנ ת ַדּ ֶמ ל ִֶ פֶּא ֶר ָה ד ַע ַצּ ַה .ּמ ְצ ַע ְל  ַע ֵגּנּ ִֶ ה ִמּ ַבּ
                                                                                                   יוּב ֶָ ם ָד ָא ָה ִֶ "י ֶכֹנ ָא" ָה ל ִֶ ר ָצ ְב ֶמּ ַה ֵמ ר ֵר ְח ַתּ ְֶ ֶה ְל אוּה ּר ֵב ֲח

                                                                                                   ה ִאּר אוּה ִֶ י ֶפ ְכּ ּתּא תּא ְר ֶל ּר ֵב ֲח ַל וי ָני ֵע ת ִא רֹס ְמ ֶל ְו ,ּבּ

                                                                                                   י ֶפ ְכּ ּתּ ֶא ֶי ֶגּ ְר ַה ְל ,ּבּ ֶל ת ִא ת ֵת ָל - י ֶנ ֵשּׁ ַה ד ַע ַצּ ַה .ּמ ְצ ַע ת ִא
                                                                                                                      .ּמ ְצ ַע ת ִא ֶי ֶגּ ְר ַמּ ִֶ


                                                                                                   ס ַחַיּ ַה ְו  ,ּפוּג ְכּ  אי ֶה ִֶ  ,ּתּ ְֶ ֶא  י ֵׁ ַל ְכּ  ר ַמ ֱא ִנ  יא ַדּ ַו ְבּ  ה ִז  בוּיִּח
             18.  There  are  certainly  spiritual  laws  which  if  violated  will  vary  in
                 consequence,  as some  will  activate  or prevent  the  occurrence  of a          פ ָר ָמ י ֵר ְב ֶד ְכּ ,לאֹמֹ ְש דַי ְל פי ֶמָי דַי ס ַחַי ְכּ תּי ְה ֶל ךְי ֶר ָצ  ָהי ִל ֵא
                 natural event.  In this instance of Rav Rachumi, our Rock-Whose-
                 Actions-Are-Perfect-And-Just activated the consequence of the law in              א ָלּ ִא ,פי ֶאוּשּׂ ֶנּ ַה ם ֶע ּמ ְצ ַע ֵמ א ָבּ ִֶ ר ָב ָדּ ה ִז פי ֵא ם ָלוּא .א"ּז ֲח ַה
                 great measure for violating this starkly uncompromising spiritual law             אֹ ֵשּנ ל ִֶ ה ָל ֲע ַמּ ַה ת ִא תּנ ְר ֶל ל ֵדּ ַתּ ְֶ ֶה ְלוּ ,ךְ ָכּ ל ַע דֹב ֲע ַל ךְי ֶר ָצ
                 in response to the “emotional oppression” experienced by the Rav’s
                 wife; but this is not the place to elaborate on the topic.                                             .ּתּ ְֶ ֶא ם ֶע לֹע ְבּ
