Dumaguete Champions IT Through CSR Initiatives
SPi Global Dumaguete held numerous outreach and
computer literacy programs in support of the
company’s commitment to support youth welfare and
education in the grassroots level.
A total of 1,346 CSR champions and volunteers
participated in awareness, training, and beautifica-
tion efforts, and rendered 35,282 volunteer hours, in a
month-long campaign leading to CSR Day on
March 17, 2018. The team helped nine beneficiary
schools in Negros Oriental, including day care centers,
elementary and high schools, and universities from
Bacong, Sibulan, San Jose, Amlan, and Dumaguete City.
Flagship CSR Projects
SPi Global Dumaguete implemented three flagship
CSR programs – all geared towards grooming future
techies. These include curriculum development and
computer literacy trainings, which were extended to
high school students in the towns of Bacong, Sibulan,
San Jose, Amlan, and Dumaguete City.
Graduating students from Negros Oriental State
University, along with their instructors, were also
given a corporate tour.
All student beneficiaries of the flagship projects
were enrolled in the “Make IT EZ” program, which
consisted of half-day sessions that ran for
14 Sundays at St. Paul University Dumaguete.
PC’s were also donated to adopted schools namely
Batinguel Elementary School and Cadawinonan
Elementary School, and Nasig-Id Elementary School
in the municipality of Zamboanguita. Apart from
donating bookshelves, computer tables, and PC’s to
Babajuba Elementary School, the team also assisted in
setting up the school’s computer library.
Rehabilitation Projects
To further enhance learning, volunteers partici-
pated in several renovation and clean-up drives
in primary schools in Sibulan and Dumaguete
City. These included replacement of class-
room roof, trusses, posts, and walls in Tubigon
Elementary School. In Batinguel Elementary
School, our volunteers assisted in renovating
restrooms, cleaning up the school grounds,
and repainting classrooms and the library.
In both Taclobo Day Care Center and Bacagay
Health Center, the SMART connectivity project,
along with rehabilitation efforts, such as clean-
ing up the surroundings and setting up an
edible garden, were conducted. The team also
set up a “Gulayan sa Paaralan” (school herbari-
um) in Babajuba Elementary School, using tires
to make pots.
Fun Events
The Dumaguete team conducted several fun
events for students, including a FUN Day for
kids at Taclobo Day Care Center. Also held
were a dance clinic for the students of
Batinguel Elementary School; and story books,
toys, and clothes donation drive for Malungcay
Elementary School.
