Motivation is a person’s predisposition to act in a goal directed manner.
This predisposition is a function of needs, values, motives, incentives,
objectives & goals
Content Theories of Motivation refer to the needs, motives, and rewards
that people are attempting to satisfy
Hierarchy of Needs
Content Maslow suggests that needs can be reduced to five hierarchal
needs: Physiological, Safety, Belongingness and Love, Esteem, and
Self Actualization
Theories of ERG Theory
Motivation Alderfer gives three hierarchal levels of needs: Existence,
Relatedness & Growth
Theory of Needs
McClelland, three primary needs: achievement, power, &
affiliation
Motivator-Hygiene Theory
Herzberg concluded that people have two independent needs that
affect work: Environment & Motivators
