SPRINGFIELD GARDENS LIONS
ACKNOWLEDGE VISION LOSS
On October 14 and 15, 2021, The
Springfield Gardens Lions Club, Inc. celebrated
World Sight Day and White Cane Awareness
Day respectively. A digital and audio power-point
presentation that explained the significance of
these annual observances was shared with
District Lions and community liaisons. It was
developed by a Club member, Lion Lowena
Howard and the transcript was created by Lion
Iris Allen.
World Sight Day (WSD) is an
international day of awareness held every
October to focus attention on the global issue of
eye health. White Cane Safety Day was created
in 1964 and adopted by a joint resolution of the
United States Congress. It recognizes the white
cane that enables blind people to travel safely
and independently navigate their communities.
World Sight Day and White Cane Awareness 2021
The club looks forward to planning an
in-person event next year to commemorate

Day.
