“TELL ME A STORY” AT ROSEDALE LIBRARY

September is National Literacy Month. Springfield Gardens Lions promoted events to “change the community” by celebrating the
    importance of literacy

                                                                                                    th
Despite a torrential rainstorm the day before, the Lions and children came out to the library on Saturday, September 30 , 2023,
from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm to listen to “Read Aloud” stories or engage in independent reading at the Queens Public Library Rochdale
    Village Branch.

The younger children enjoyed listening to readings by Lions Iris, Gloria, Sandra, Stephanie, Yvonne, and Ambassador Girl Scout Leo
Ilana. Selected texts included So Much, Green Eggs and Ham, The Giving Tree, I Like You, and The Little Engine That Could,. The
children were actively engaged, excited, and entertained as they listened to the unfolding of the characters and the plot in each
    story.

The library provided a storytime carpet for the children to sit comfortably and the Lions offered refreshments of healthy snacks
                                                                            ,
and juices. The children even howled along to Mercer Mayer’s No Howling in the House which attracted many patrons to the
Meeting room to listen to the story as well. Our youngest attendee was one year old, and she sat on the carpet, attentive to the
    presentation.
The children and parents enjoyed the event so much that the Springfield Gardens Lions Club Inc. has been asked to make “Youth
Story Time “ a monthly event.
