“Scene” and Heard in Brooklyn & Queens

We made history at tcs/nyc marathon, 2023

At this year’s TCS/ NYC Marathon, there was a record number of Lion volunteers to serve the
50,000 runners who came from all over the world to participate in the world’s largest marathon.
It must be noted that for the first time, the Brooklyn and Queens Lions, “District 20-K1,” were
assigned to serve at TWO Fluid Stations (Mile–8 and Mile-10). They handed out cups of water and
Gatorade to the runners and cleaned up at the end of the race.

In addition, this year’s happening was a very special, exciting, and memorable event that will be
recorded in the annals of the “History of District 20-K1” WE MADE HISTORY.

For the first time, we waited with expectancy to cheer our very own Lion Anita Cochran-Morris,
Esq., a member of Mid-Bedford Heights Lions Club and the daughter of PDG’s Anthony and Joyce
Cochran. She was one of the 50,000 runners in the TCS NYC Marathon. (See photos) Lion Anita
completed 26.2 miles at 05:28:47. your fellow Lions of District 20-K1 are ROARING LOUDLY,
congratulating you on a job well done!

Our District Governor, Antonio Robles, in his characteristic “Servant Leadership Style,” was
stationed at Mile Mark 8. He teamed with other Lions to serve for nine (9) hours. Participating
clubs at both sites included Rego Park -Forest Hills, New Horizon, Crown Heights, East New York,
Farragut, Stuy Park, Rising Star, Canarsie, Mid-Bedford Heights, Midwood, Central Brooklyn,
Winthrop, Bedford Stuyvesant, and Clinton Hill. The larger group of 23 Lions was assigned to Mile -
10 with Lion Mirle Gillard, Marathon Co-Chair and the smaller group of 14 Lions were assigned to
         Mile – 8.
