ROBERT J. UPLINGER AWARD
Robert J. Uplinger was the second International President from New York State. A member of
the Syracuse Host Lions Club, he was the 55th International President serving from 1971-
1972. To commemorate his service, the Multiple District 20 of New York State and Bermuda
established the Robert J. Uplinger Award in 1993. This award is presented to outstanding
Lions, non-Lions, or organizations that performed exemplary service to a club, district, or
community. Honorees possess the highest example of Lionistic character, ideals, and service.
PROGRESSIVE ROBERT J. UPLINGER AWARD
A recipient of a Progressive Robert J. Uplinger is awarded a dangle with a white crystal which
hangs from their original Robert J. Uplinger pin. This award affirms their strong interest,
dedication and service to others through Lionism. The Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished
Service Award is the highest award available in Multiple District 20.
MD-20 PDG ASSOCIATION LEADERSHIP AWARD
The MD-20 PDG Association Leadership Award is bestowed upon Lions who have made
unselfish contributions of time, talent, and resources for the advancement of Lionism at the
Club and/or District level. These Lions have demonstrated significant examples of leadership
of a Lions Club at the Club and/or District level, and have been involved in Lions Club
activities for a sustained period of time. The recipient has made significant accomplishments
in service, fundraising and other major activities, and has participated in events beyond the
Club level such as conferences, forums and conventions.
DOUGLAS X. ALEXANDER DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP
AWARD
Douglas X. Alexander, from Brooklyn, New York was elected to serve as International
President of Lions Clubs International at the Association’s 103rd International Convention,
June 25 through June 29, 2021. President Alexander is a retired Vice President for J.P.
Morgan Chase Bank. A member of the Brooklyn Bedford Stuyvesant Lions Club since 1984,
he has held many offices within the association, including Club President, Zone Chair, Region
Chair, Vice District Governor, District Governor, Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Treasurer and
DGE Group Leader. He also served as a Lions Eye Bank Transporter, a member of the
District and Multiple District PDG Association, a Trustee of the New York State and Bermuda
Lions Foundation, and was appointed as the Lions Representative to UNICEF-New York from
2012-2014. He has served on the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum Planning and Host
Committees, and has been a Presenter at several USA/Canada Forums. This award is
intended to recognize Lions for their Outstanding Leadership, Service and Commitment to
Lionism, and the Community at Large.
