BIOGRAPHY OF KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Lion Dr. Maureen Cort-Blackson
Lion Dr. Maureen Cort-Blackson’s core belief is that “Honesty is always the best policy, and that
trust has to be earned.” She began her journey in Social Work overseas, followed by a Master’s
Degree in Psychology and has peaked by earning a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Walden
University. Dr. Cort-Blackson’s Dissertation “The Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Online University
Student’s Performance” is published by Pro Quest and is a solid piece of scholarship. She is a
graduate from the Beck Institute with a certificate in Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
Dr. Cort-Blackson is a practicing Psychotherapist for the past 19 years and provides services to
clients to help them reach their full potential. With this skill set, she is also a Bio-Psychosocial
Evaluator who asks appropriate questions to understand the origins of uncharacteristic behaviors.
Her career provides opportunities for her to interact and provide services to children, adolescents
and adults. Dr. Cort-Blackson’s interest in optimal mental wellness was born after witnessing a
family member succumbing to the disease. She is an avid reader and plays a mean game of
Scrabble and Jenga.
Dr. Cort-Blackson became a Lion because as a teenager, she and her family were personally
supported by a Lion and was always interested in learning more about Lionism. Dr. Cort-
Blackson is a member of the Brooklyn Metropolis Lions Club for the past 9 years. She served in
many positions and on the Board of directors. Most recently, she was the Chair for the District
20-K1 Mental Health Committee for the 2020-2021 Lionistic year. Her passion is simply ‘giving
back.’ She connects with people of all ages, and is an honest, enthusiastic and humble Lion.
