“Even the strongest blizzard starts with a single snowflake” (WE SERVE!)
Since the beginning of the pandemic and initial “lock down,” Brooklyn Crown Heights Lions Club offered a Mental Health
Night, hosted by Regional Chair Jennifer Seymour-Wright (Brooklyn Crown Heights Lions Club). Every Monday night, via
teleconference, the forum opens to Lions and non-Lions. Sometimes a guest speaker is invited via Zoom to speak on
topics of concern, especially the challenges regarding COVID-19.
Lion Dr. Jedan Phillips, (Brooklyn Crown Heights Lions Club), a family practice physician at Stony Brook Family Medicine is
one of our regular guest speakers. On Monday, January 10, 2022, Lion Dr. Jedan shared information about the current
Omicron Variant of COVID-19. He indicated that only 11% of African Americans have received the COVID-19 Vaccination.
Lion Dr. Jedan advised frequent Rapid COVID-19 testing with follow-up PCR testing which provides more accurate and
reliable data for diagnosing COVID-19. “When experiencing flu / cold symptoms, get tested immediately to rule out the
possibility of COVID-19”, he strongly emphasized.
In addition to Lion members from various clubs, online viewers included participants from Grenada, West Indies, Canada,
U.S. Virgin Islands and Virginia Beach.
