The following must be placed inside the pocket of the student’s apron/polo: small notebook, penlight, 1
thermometer, 1 ball pen, bandage scissors, ruler, nail cutter.
Attitude or Behavior While on Duty
1. Courtesy towards superiors, patients, health staff, community folks and fellow students is expected from
all students.
2. Students are encouraged to maintain a happy disposition at all times.
3. Students must avoid making noise in the hospital or other RLE venues.
4. Combing of hair and doing make up should be done inside the rest room, Never in the hospital corridor
or in public.
5. Students are expected to render total nursing care and to stay with their patients as much as possible.
Students found sitting in their area doing nothing or doing other things not related to their duty should be
dealt with accordingly.
6. Friends, girlfriends/boyfriends and relatives of students are not allowed to be entertained in the area
except on extreme emergency. Students must ask permission first from their Clinical Instructor before
entertaining their visitors.
7. Students are given meal time breaks depending upon their RLE hours as follows:
a. 4 hours duty-------------------------30 minutes break
b. 6 hours duty-------------------------30 minutes break
c. 8 hours duty-------------------------15 minutes
for snacks and 30 minutes for lunch/dinner
8. Students who go for snacks or for a break must notify the CI or Head Nurse upon leaving and arrival.
9. Going out of the hospital or community during duty hours is not allowed. The CI or Head Nurse or the
school shall not be held responsible or liable for untoward incidents that may occur to a student who goes
out without permission.
10. Parents of students on evening duty are encouraged to fetch their child from the duty area.
11. All students are expected to follow the rules and regulations on Student Conduct and Discipline as
provided for in the ISU Student Handbook. Corresponding penalties as indicated in the Student Handbook
and as would be recommended by the Disciplinary Board and approved by the Dean of the College of
Nursing shall be imposed to violations of one or more of the rules.
12. Use of cellular phones while on duty are strictly prohibited.
