contact with the audiences. In the following speeches, we just need to polish the rest of
                  the techniques, i.e.
                                                                Volume
At the beginning a powerful voice was
the key point. Now, electronic devices
have made our speech delivery easier. In
case we are not provided with those
devices, we need to adjust our voice to
the acoustics of the room, the number of
audiences and the level of background

                   Pitch
Pitch is the highness or lowness of the speaker’s voice (Lucas, 2001: 289).
Speakers should be aware that pitch determines the meaning of words or sounds.
Inflections─ changes in pitch ─ tell the audience whether we are asking a question,
stating an opinion or being persuasive. Inflections can also show our mood and it
gives attractive effect to the delivery itself.

                   Rate
Rate refers to the speed which a person speaks. Two faults to avoid are speaking
so slowly that our audiences become bored or so quickly that they lose track of our
ideas. There is no other way of knowing the appropriate rate in speech but
                      PRACTICE.

                   Pause
Pause is the signal end of a thought
unit and for most first learners, it is also
hard to handle since a second silence
seems like an eternity. When we pause,
make it sure that it is the end of a
thought, not in the middle because it
may disturb the audiences from our
                    ideas.
                                                                                                 julettemillien.com
                   Vocal Variety
When we are giving a speech, we should modulate our voice in the way to
communicate our ideas and feelings. How to develop a dynamic and expressive
voice? We need to sharpen our confidence and desire to communicate. We also need
to revise our vocal via frequent exercises and decide on the parts of speech that need
                      further improvement.
