Control through Dependency
As the USA share of the global economy declines, and as other nations develop
stronger control over other markets, USA businesses and USA oligarchs are destined to
develop a more predatory force wherever they are allowed.
Recent history in Europe has shown the degree to which US oligarchs are prepared to
meddle in mature economies in order to protect their perceived self-interest.
Any number of articles have been published in recent years detailing the lengths that
USA oligarchs resourced efforts to boost the chances of a UK exit from the EU. And this
was at a time when the EU was actively seeking to hold the USA multinationals to account
over their tax-avoidance arrangements that are perceived to cost European nations USD
tens of billions each year.
What better investment is there than to invest a handful of USD millions in order to
disrupt the EU in a way that breaks down EU unity, diverts the focus of EU leadership and
so possibly saves an American oligarch USD tens of billions a year?
And if they can do that in Europe with its developed economies, how much more can
they do in Africa where most individual countries that are mineral rich have very low levels
of GDP?

The UK
The UK will need a more dynamic approach if it is not to play a minor role in African affairs.
Given the assets the UK started with, and very much still has, the UK is quite simply

its own enemy. Whatever people's views on the m'zuŋ u colonisation of Africa, there is no
deniability as to the advantages UK still has in terms of its dealings with Africa.
Many Africans speak our language. Some even teach it as a standard part of formal
education. Many of our ex-colonies retained our country’s ‘corporate law’ after
independence. (There were bigger priorities) There are any number of African diaspora(s) based
in the UK.
But assets mean nothing if you do not know how to use them. Compared to the
determination of China and Russia, we seem less relevant.
Autocratic China reaps the rewards of a ‘constancy’ that ensures a strategy based on
a ‘100 year view’ will produce results.
Russian oligarchs also have no one to answer to and so can use whatever method
they like to bleed weak African states
