grave in the courtyard of an old village church. The grave was impres-
sive in its simplicity. The gravestone was a horizontal slab containing
only his name, birth and death dates. How modest for the grave of a man
who was probably more responsible than any other for the survival of
the Western civilization when it was imperiled by the Nazis and later by
the Communists of the USSR! The graveyard is only a short distance

tended a Shakespearean play. The boys did not wish to attend so we did
        not force the issue.

We drove on to Llandudno, a seaside town in Wales. It was like a
trip back 75 years ago – most of the seaside places had been built in the
1920s. That evening Richard and I attended a concert by a Welsh men’s
choir. The Welsh are justly famous for their group singing.

The next day we drove to see the famous garden at Bodnant.
The garden was developed on a somewhat steep hillside sloping down

recommended an alternative place, but he led us there in his car to en-
sure that we did not get lost in the countryside lanes. The next morning,
we drove several miles before it suddenly occurred to Richard that he
was driving on the right side of the road instead of the left. Luckily, no
cars had come down the country road before his realization.
The Welsh countryside is very hilly, but everything is green,
