Decoking
Engine Disassembly Preparation
• Shut unit down per TI 2300-005
• Install LOTO on Engine control system
• Shut off oil fill valves and install LOTO
• Drain coolant into approved containment
• Install LOTO on all cooling system fill and drain valves
• Install LOTO on all gas inlets
Engine Disassembly
Once the engine is properly shut down and all systems have LOTO attached, disassembly
can begin. Disassembly must follow the NES/WES QA Overhaul Procedure, as well as
the overhaul data sheet and Jenbacher FSM. all documents can be found on SharePoint
Documentation Section.
All Jenbacher Guidelines must be followed during top end disassembly, as well each
component must be mark for proper reinstallation.
Following each engine cylinder head removal, the engine must immediately be covered
to protect against contaminants and debris from entering the engine.
Make sure all engine openings are covered including air intake openings, exhaust
openings, and confirm any equipment surrounding the engine you are working on is
protected.
Decoking Cylinder Heads
Once the engine Top End is removed and safely secured, the Siloxane removal or
“Decoking” process can begin. It is recommended to begin with the cylinder head
siloxane removal first. If possible, the heads should be removed from the engine
container or plant to an open-air area, to prevent air born contaminate from entering
open engine block. Using tape or air tight covers on both intake and exhaust port of the
cylinder head. Using an angle grinder and wire wheel or Roloc pad, remove siloxane
from cylinder head face, pay attention to remove siloxane from around each intake and
exhaust valves. Only visual inspection of buildup on the valve seat and seat face. Once
Siloxane is removed from each cylinder head wipe each head down with a Jenbacher
approved cleaning agent and cover to protect from air-born contaminates.
