Gearbox to Generator Laser Alignment
Performed the same as the engine to gearbox, the alignment tool is set up per the user manual. Rotating the
engine to gather the vertical, horizontal and angular offset. Below is limits for all gearbox to generator
couplings. Always verify IW 8071 A0 for most up to date limiting values.
• All coupling Type limits
o Vertical (12 and 6 position) 0.2mm
o Horizontal (3 and 9 position) 0.2mm
o Angular 0.1mm
Use shims to adjust generator within tolerances above. As with the engine to gearbox alignment, every move to
the generator requires a recheck with the laser tool. Once all values above are within tolerance the Gearbox to
Generator Axial Spring pack value can be checked. As previous shims may require trimming.
Axial Spring Pack Gearbox to Generator
Once laser alignment is completing you can now move to confirming axial offset or spring pack distance. Since
Engine to gearbox alignment is complete, the gearbox is stationary, and all movement must be made on the
generator. Just like the engine Spring pack the Generator Spring pack has specific measurements that are
required. Each distance is measured at the 12,3,6 and 9 positions. Unique to the generator Spring pack is the
requirement of two distances. Both of which have specific requirements. Illustration 1g shows proper
measurement positions for each.

Each Specific coupling part number requires a different distance. Data below indicates each part number and the
measurement requirements for each specific coupling
