SAFETY
All PPS-NES-WES personnel are expected to think, plan, and act in a manner that minimizes potential for accidents
regardless of whether in an office, warehouse, shop, or field service environment. It is YOUR responsibility to work at
all times in a safe manner which includes working around the equipment, facilities, and the operations of the company
and the customer to prevent damage or disruption. To promote this the following safety rules have been established.
Failure to comply with these policies can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Employees are expected to:

1) Report to work in a condition to safely perform all job assignments and duties. Those driving company vehicles
are expected to drive these vehicles in a safe manner whether driving to and from branch locations, customer
sites, or other destinations.
2) Have the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and make sure it is in good condition. Use proper PPE as
conditions require, including the environments or customer demands that necessitate utilizing FR equipment as
stated under NFPA 70E. It is mandatory that PPS, NES, & WES employees comply with the PPE requirements
of the Penn Power Group and the Customer.
3) Note and adhere the safety rules as established by the Customer for its personnel and site location.
4) Report all accidents or injuries immediately to company management immediately including the safety manager.
Have available first aid supplies and be familiar in their use. The Company will provide these supplies and it is
up the Employee to maintain these supplies.
5) Never work on Customer’s equipment without first informing the Customer so they can make any necessary
arrangements.
6) It is the policy of Penn Power Systems NOT to work on live (HOT) equipment or equipment that can start
automatically or from remote locations, without it being disabled, e.g. controller switched to “OFF”, and batteries
completely disconnected.
7) Follow lockout tagout procedures and properly lockout tagout all electrical and mechanical equipment.
Employees will be issued individual locks and hasps and are responsible for their proper use. The lockout
procedure for Stationary Engines, Fire Pumps, Generators (standby or prime power) and Switchgear is as
follows:
a) Turn all engine controls to off position and tag out all engine control switches.
(Note: some equipment has more than one start switch or location and could be in other areas, or
remote locations.
b) Disconnect starting circuits from engine and lock out.
(Note: Disconnect Batteries)
c) If switch gear inspection /service is required:
1) Turn engine control switch/s off
2) Disconnect power to equipment
3) Lockout and tagout all related circuit breakers
4) Test equipment with volt-ohm meter to verify the power is off before proceeding with
the service.
8) Maintain housekeeping standards for the area and clean up after your task is complete.
9) Comply with all regulations and Customer requirements for handling, storage, and disposal of materials that the
employee may use while performing these services.
