Collaborative Online Learning Design
Husain (2020) suggests ten types of collaborative learning:
1. Learning Together. In this method, class groups consist of students with different
abilities. Each group works together to complete a task given by the teacher. A group
receives and works on only one set of task sheets. Assessment is based on the group's
work.
2. Team-Games-Tournament (TGT). After learning with their own groups, members of
one group compete with members of other groups according to their respective skill
levels. The evaluation is based on the sum of the group's scores.
3. Group Investigation (GI). All group members are required to plan an investigation
along with a plan to solve the problem at hand. The group determines what will be
done, who will do it, and how to plan its presentation to the class forum. Assessment is
based on the process and results of the group work.
4. Academic-Constructive Controversy (AC). Each group member is required to be able to
engage in a situation of intellectual conflict developed on the basis of their respective
learning outcomes, both with group members and with members of other groups. This
learning activity prioritizes the achievement and development of the qualities of
problem solving, critical thinking, judgment, interpersonal relationships, psychological
health and harmony. Assessment is based on each member's and group's ability to
defend their chosen position.
5. Jigsaw Procedure (JP). In this form of learning, members of a group are given different
tasks on a topic. In order for each member to understand the whole subject, a test is
given with comprehensive material. The evaluation is based on the average test score of
the group.
6. Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD). Students in a class are divided into
small groups. Members of each group learn from and teach each other. The emphasis is
that the success of the individual affects the success of the group, and the success of the
