t the Ajax Defense Industries plant, most of the workers were women, as the men were fighting overseas. These
Awomen filled bombs, working in dangerous conditions with toxic powder and constant risks of sparks. My father was
the medical director, overseeing a 36-bed hospital, nine doctors, and 36 nurses across the plant’s 3,000-acre facility.
I’ve seen the TV series Bomb Girls, which dramatizes the lives of women in such facilities. While entertaining, it doesn’t
fully capture the harsh and dangerous realities these workers faced.
