IAS (Indicated Air Speed)
IFR (Instrument Flight Rules)
Overtaking Aircraft – An aircraft approaching another aircraft from behind at
an angle of less than 70 degrees measured from the length axis of the overtaken
aircraft.
Interception – A military action against an aircraft, usually aimed at
determining its identity.
Clearance – Permission to perform air traffic operations in accordance with the
specific conditions issued by an air traffic control unit.
Controlled Aerodrome – An aerodrome where air traffic control services are
provided for aerodrome traffic.
Controlled Flight – Any flight for which a clearance has been issued.
Critical Phase – A collective term for uncertainty phase, alert phase, and
emergency phase.
MSL (Mean Sea Level)
Emergency Phase – A situation where there is reasonable certainty that an
aircraft and its occupants are in serious and imminent danger and require
immediate assistance. Code designation DETRESFA.
RCC (Rescue Coordination Centre) – A unit responsible for organizing search
and rescue services and coordinating search and rescue operations within a
search and rescue region.
TIA (Traffic Information Area) – A non-controlled airspace created in
conjunction with a TIZ, extending upwards from a defined boundary above the
earth's/water's surface to a defined upper boundary.
Service Hours – The period during which a public aerodrome provided
aerodrome and traffic services.
TMA (Terminal Control Area) – A control area created in connection with an
aerodrome.
Uncertainty Phase – A situation where there is uncertainty about the safety of
an aircraft and its occupants. Code designation INCERFA.
