together, that amounts to 142,000 animals. The Celebration
of the temple completion was held in a duration of 14 days,
which means 10,000 cows and sheep were of-fered on a daily
basis.
The Temple of Solomon is smaller in scale than the
Tabernacle of Moses. The Bible says, “The temple that King
Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty
wide and thirty high.” (1King 6:2) The temple is quite small
for the 7 years of construction, but the Bible plainly states
its measurements. By estimating a cubit to 19.7 inches,
the temple of Solomon is 1181.1 inches in length, 393.7 in
width and 590.5 in height. This is only about 1/4 the size of
a soccer field. How much blood would have been spilled by
ten thousand animals in this small space?
What could have caused Solomon to offer up the blood of
so many animals to God? Did God require this of him, or
could it be that God needed to shed great amounts of blood?
To know this cause, the 10th plague of Egypt must be
understood. God inflicted Ten plagues on Egypt so that the
Israelites would be set free to depart the land. The last plague
was a death of all the first born. This plague was not only for
the Egyptians, but for the Israelites as well. But God showed
a way to escape this plague through Moses.
