Show A Little Understanding for Other Styles

This is where the first Silver Rule comes into play; understanding that the
other person’s style and their needs may be different from yours.

Treat the person you’re communicating with the way they wish to be
treated at that time, and celebrate the difference in style instead of
resenting it.

All these LIONS, PORPOISES, KOALAS, and FOXES are human beings
Feed them courtesy, dignity, and respect
Celebrate their differences
Let them be themselves and feel their individual feelings
Beware of their tendencies to respond with kindness when treated with
kindness

And while we’re celebrating the differences in behavioral styles, maybe it’s
time to celebrate the differences in other areas of life as well. Celebrate the
differences in age, gender, race, religion and lifestyles. All these
differences add up to a more diverse “team” with broader skills and
understanding.

World-class communicators don’t let differences stand in the way of
communications. They celebrate the differences with dignity, respect,
courtesy, and kindness.
