Again, imagine how the different agendas of the PORPOISE and the FOX
might mix.

The PORPOISE, motivated by spontaneity and impulsive decision making,
doesn’t see much need for planning; let’s just GO! The FOX needs time to
think and plan. Their agenda requires lots of information, plenty of facts.

If these two were traveling together without understanding each other’s
needs, imagine what could happen. The FOX would want to plan every
step and couldn’t understand how the PORPOISE could just go without
much more information. On the other hand, the PORPOISE could feel that
the FOX was spoiling all the fun by taking all of the spontaneity out of the
trip by overanalyzing everything.

By knowing what is at the typically at the top of the other person’s agenda,
we can support that agenda and achieve effective communication. Without
knowing and supporting another’s agenda, we too often create conflict.
