Frank’s dad couldn’t get his task done; Frank wasn’t playing, so he wasn’t
                   happy with Pete.

Pete was getting increasingly unpopular with Frank’s dad and Frank, as
well. He was hurt and bothered.

Frank didn’t feel part of the team; he felt unappreciated. He wanted to quit.

No one bothered to get on the other person’s agenda.

But then Pete did something special.

He risked his primary agenda (approval) to support the agendas of Frank
and Frank’s dad, which were peace and power.

First, Pete met with Frank and told him how valuable he was to the team,
whether as starter or back-up. He explained how much Frank was
appreciated, how he was an important element of the entire unit. He was
                   wanted.

Then Pete met with Frank’s dad and requested help in solving the problem
(LIONs LOVE this): the team had two talented running backs but only one
                   could start.

Pete gave Frank’s dad options (LIONS like to make decisions). Pete
suggested that Franks dad could either support the decision on behalf of
the team that Frank play a back-up role, or that Frank could quit the team,
or that Pete could make sure that Frank got opportunity to practice and
play occasionally with the first unit. He even offered to meet occasionally
with Frank’s dad to measure Frank’s progress. He did this with an attitude
of sincere interest and support of Frank.

                   The end result was good.

Pete’s primary agenda of approval was met and his secondary agenda of
building a winning team was supported.

Frank’s primary agenda of peace and teamwork were met when he felt a
                   part of the team.

And Franks’ dad met his primary agenda of power; he was “in charge”
                   helping his son.

Pete was able to read the different agendas, his own included, and make
                   sure they were all supported.
