The appeal of variable annuities is the guarantees they provide.
It’s important to note, however, that these guarantees are only as
good as the company that issues them. It is paramount to know
the financial soundness of the company you’re investing with.
While annuities do provide guarantees, they are not guaranteed
by the U.S. government, like bank deposits or certificates of deposit
are. Annuities are not:
► FDIC-insured
► Guaranteed by a bank or savings association
► Insured by any federal agency
Purchasing a variable annuity for retirement income usually
means that you will have a long-term relationship with the
company, so let’s look at factors to consider before entering into
that relationship.
Check on the Company’s Reputation
► Is the company a name you know and trust?
