DUBLIN – The Merrion: This five-star property, created from four separate townhomes of the
eighteenth century, is a Georgian
masterpiece. The recent
refurbishment was nothing short of
exquisite. A member of the Leading
Hotels of the World consortium, The
Merrion comprises 142 guest rooms,
plus spectacular common rooms
including two interconnected drawing
rooms where afternoon tea is served. In the contemporary Garden Wing, there are guest rooms
along with the hotel’s spa facility, but we give a slight nod to the original Georgian main
building. In addition to the Cellar Restaurant, there are two bars including the Cellar Bar located
in original wine vaults from the eighteenth century and No. 23, an intimate bar upstairs for
cocktails and a light bite. http://www.merrionhotel.com/
Links Overview:
Lahinch Old Course: For generations, The Old Course at Lahinch has lured golfers who want
the authentic, Irish links
experience. Lahinch has been here
in some form or fashion since
1892, with the original design
crafted by Old Tom Morris and
once reworked by none other than
Alister MacKenzie. As recently as
2003, Martin Hawtree made a few
more tweaks that have been
absorbed without a hitch. Players
who can control their trajectory will be rewarded here, as cuts, draws, high shots and low bullets
are all required at some point in your round. Of course, the bump and-run will be called upon,
and there will be some blind shots over dunes. Lahinch will make you feel as if you have
stepped back in time. http://www.lahinchgolf.com/
