After graduation I went on active duty with the Navy and was assigned at Attack
Squadron 15 departing for the USS Intrepid (Yeah, it’s been a museum for over 30 years)
for two Vietnam cruises. After our last line period, I left the squadron and flew back as
they weren’t sure I had enough active duty time left to return with the ship.
After 30 years with the phone company, I retired as an Operational Support Systems
Supervisor. A few days later I went to work as a consultant with Bellcore on various
projects including testing to be sure the telecommunications systems would not come to a
halt when the calendar roller over to the 21st century.
Next came a few years selling real estate. About that time the Navy was looking for a
blimp ground crew, so I applied. They weren’t quite ready for us so I went on the road
with a commercial airship in the interim. I left the commercial blimp for the Navy blimp
but not before logging some flight time in the commercial airship. After a while I left the
Navy crew and joined the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society to do tours on the base and
eventually began doing restorations for the Society one of which was a full size replica of
the Hindenburg Gondola that was used in the movie Hindenburg.
Currently, in addition to my Lakehurst projects, I am a mission pilot and Operations
Officer of the Ocean Air Support Squadron, flying missions in support of the Ocean
County Sheriff.
