Issues and Problems
After reading the Faecal Recognition case study issue and
problem identification should be undertaken.
The issue or problem statement should be a clear, concise
statement of exactly what needs to be addressed in the case
study. Problems require a solution before an organisation’s
performance can improve. Consequently, it has to be
decided what are the core issues/problems? Identification of
these may be aided by addressing the following:
1. What are the issue(s)/problem(s) in the case study?
2. Identifying the facts of the case will allow you to begin
appreciating the issues and problems facing the
organisation and allow you to identify what the issues are
that need to be addressed immediately? It helps to
differentiate between issues that can be resolved within the
context of the case with those that are embedded in the
external environment. Essentially, the exercise is to
distinguish urgent issues form those of lesser importance.
These important issues should be dealt with in terms of
their order of urgency.
3. Likewise, identify what appears to be the problem(s)
within the case study. Here it helps to know what is a
problem. This means being able to differentiate the
symptoms of the problem with the problem itself.
