External environment
The external environment comprises those elements and
conditions which are outwith management’s control (see
above).
Taken together the internal and external environments will
highlight numerous factors which influence the
organisation’s performance. Some of these factors are
immediately critical whilst the majority are at best capable,
some time in the future, of becoming problematical. The
cruciform chart allows pictorial representation of those
factors which are the most crucial for the organisation’s
future development. These are the critical elements which
will, if not addressed, have an immediate impact on the
organisation.
