The promise of eternal life made by the Son of God (God actively present on earth) is sustained by
the veracity of truth; – His word. He says the person that believes “on” Him will have
everlasting life. The word “on” is the Greek word “eis” (ice) which indicates a point reached or
entered at some place in time. In context to its definition, the Messiah used the expression to
highlight the reward of eternal life that awaits at the end of the process when a person reaches
a place in time to believe the truth, He has presented to them.

Note: “eis” was used for “on” or “in” interchangeably.

John 6:48 I am that bread of life.

               Lesson Notes:

(John 6:48) – The son of God reveals Himself as the bread of life. He uses bread as a metaphor
to best express His utilitarian purpose for giving life to mankind. Bread is a basic staple of life.
The Son of God, (God actively present on earth), makes Himself synonymous with a universal staple
consumed every day to sustain life.
The Greek renders the word bread as “artos”; which means raised bread. The text specifies
Him as “that bread”; the raised bread, the loaf filled with yeast that makes bread rise. The
Greek rendering provides a metaphor forecasting the resurrection of His mortal body,
transformed from death, because He is filled with the yeast of life. The resurrection will
separate the Son of God, (God actively present on earth), from all that came before Him declaring to
               offer everlasting life.

John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
John 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man
may eat thereof, and not die.
John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man
eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my
flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

               Lesson Notes:

(John 6:49) – He reminds His audience, although Jewish history celebrates manna as a sign of
divine providence, the forefathers that ate manna in the wilderness are all dead. The fathers
ate the manna, surviving their moment of hunger and need for food but all of them eventually
died. Manna did not empower them to survive the fatality of death.
(John 6:50) – The Son of God (God actively present on earth), offers bread that will give men life.
Bread that overcomes the fatality of death is the “true” bread from heaven. Jesus-Messiah
compares Himself to earthly bread only to illustrate His ability to give man the life he needs
every day. His words are like bread, sustaining daily life with the power to overcome the
spiritual and natural fatality of death. The words of the Messiah empower men to have full
               access to life. (*John 10:10)
