that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
John 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that
we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave
them bread from heaven to eat.
John 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses
gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true
bread from heaven.
John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and
giveth life unto the world.
John 6:34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh
to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6:36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
Lesson Notes:
(John 6:25-27) – The multitude or at least of remnant of the group find Jesus-Messiah
approaching with curiosity about how He arrived in Capernaum without access to a ship to
transport Him. The Messiah responds to the intent He can see in their heart choosing not to
explain the details on how He arrived in Capernaum. His reply cuts through the desire in their
hearts seeking to make Him a King because they want to extend their access to provisions that
will satisfy their natural hunger.
He cautions them for their intense labor to pursue Him for meat that will perish and failing
hunger for the meat of everlasting life. As the son of man, God has sealed the Messiah for the
purpose of distributing everlasting life. When an emissary carries a message on behalf of a
King, the written document is sealed with the signet (stamp or emblem) of the monarch to
authenticate that the words written are to be received as directly spoken from the mouth of
the King. The seal of God is upon the son of Man (Word made flesh) establishing the words of
the son of man as directly spoken by God.
(John 6:28-29) – The multitude replies with a unison response, “what shall we do that we might
work the works of God”? As Jesus-Messiah challenged the manner that they labored to pursue
Him for meat that would perish, the multitude wants to understand how to labor (work the
works of God) to obtain meat will last. This encounter although much larger is not unlike the
conversation between the Messiah and woman from Samaria. When she learned there was a
distinction between well-water and living water, she asked to obtain it. (John 4:15)
The Teacher explains that the work of God is to believe on Him that is sent by God. The great
labor that God requires of men is to believe in the emissary sent by God; the son of man sealed
by the word of God. (Word made flesh)
