P. 67
John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.
Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father,
cometh unto me.
Lesson Notes:
(John 6:45) – The writing of the prophets foretell a time when men will be taught by God.
Everyman will hear and learn the truth hearing God’s voice; directly hearing His words. The
forecast of a season of direct instruction from God is found in the prophetic writings of Isaiah
and Jeremiah.
In Isaiah 54:13 the prophets provide a glimpse of the future restoration of captive Israel. They
are promised that desolate conditions will become fruitful again and the next generation of
their children will be taught by the Lord. The next generation will live free of oppression and
fear. The power of God’s word will draw (drag) them from death unto life.
Jeremiah adds to the same forecast an illustration that describes how God will teach them,
putting His words directly into their hearts, forcibly making its influence inescapable. (Jeremiah
31:34)
The word of God becoming flesh; receivable, consumable, and applicable was the fulfillment of
prophecy. Son of God (God actively present on earth) is the word of God giving instruction directly
from the mouth of God. When fully consumed, the word infiltrates the hearts of men and
forcibly re-aligns with their life with the truth. God’s word consumed becomes more than
written letters on a page of animal flesh, they become indelibly written upon the heart, the
inner nature of man.
John 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God,
he hath seen the Father.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath
everlasting life.
Lesson Notes:
(John 6:46) – God is only visible, in the image of the Son, seen only by those who are of God
because they are drawn (dragged) by Him.
(John 6:47) – The verse begins with a strong, positive, affirmation of truth. The redundant use
of “truly” indicates setting this truth apart from all others, making it irrefutable. The truth
affirmed in the statement is the assurance of everlasting life. No man or prophet before the
Messiah has successfully represented a claim of endless life. Most that came before Him
purported chasing after endless treasures to enjoy the brevity of life in the present world, with
no expectations of anything to follow. The few to make grand claims, offering fountains of
endless life, on earth or in a life hereafter, were unable to prevent the finality of death for
themselves.
