sites, threatened historic districts (a.k.a.
endangered heritage sites), loss of historic
character of districts, protection of historic
sites and districts, cost of protection reuse of
heritage sites, new legislation, contribution (or
revenues) generated from the tourism, tourism
management at the site and the level of
tourism usage which the heritage site provides.
There is an ever-increasing demand for
heritage tourism. It involves more educated
tourists from high-income groups who want to
gain insights about the past cultures.
Hence, economic growth and development are
positively influenced by the heritage tourism.
The steep rise in tourist footfalls at heritage
sites affects the social and ecological aspects
of the heritage site. It has been the case that
the tourists‘ use of heritage site facilities cost
more to the site then it earns. This suggests a
strong need for researching on the
sustainability issues at the heritage sites as the
increase in heritage tourists suggests demands
for sustainability at the heritage sites. For
