examined human perceptions and practices in
relation to water, wastewater, and energy
management, and how those perceptions and
practices enabled and constrained decision-
making with regard to technology adoption.
Technology can help to make a destination
more sustainable but there is often resistance
to technological adoption. There is inertial to
change. Unfamiliarity, as well as financial
interests of stakeholders, and perceived
foreign-driven agendas, complicate the
acceptance of technological solutions. On the
other hand, living memories and local
perceptions are
historically contingent, and these can nudge
people towards accepting technological
solutions, especially if they were affected by
climate-change disasters. Bringing together the
interests of multiple stakeholders are easier
said than done but common experiences can
draw stakeholders together.
