Glossary of Terms
Food Safety Record
A document that contains objective evidence that
shows how well food safety activities are being
performed or what kind of results is being achieved.
It always documents what has happened in the past.
Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC
22000) The Foundation for Food Safety Certification
was founded in 2004. The Foundation developed
FSSC 22000, the ISO 22000 and ISO/TS 22002-
1:2009 based certification scheme for certification of
food manufacturers. This development is supported
by the Confederation of the Food and Drink
Industries of the European Union (CIAA). Visit

Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)
Started in 2000 by CIES (International Committee
of Food Retail Chains founded in June 1953) and
founded under Belgian law. The GFSI has globally
accepted “schemes” or standards they have
benchmarked and accepted. Some of the most
recognized schemes include:
• BRC Global Standards (BRCGS)
• International Food Standards (IFS)
• Safe Quality Food (SQF)
• Food Safety System Certification 22000
(FSSC)
