Glossary of Terms


      Organization
      A  group  of  people  and  facilities  with  an
      arrangement  of  responsibilities,  authorities  and
      relationships.

      Oversight Body (also known as Accreditation Body)
      An  independent  agency  having  jurisdiction  to
      formally recognize the competence of a certification
      body  to  provide certification services.

      Peer Review
      Governing  body  for  the  accreditation  body  and
      made  up of other accreditation bodies.

      Prerequisite Programs (PRP)
      The   conditions   that   must   be   established
      throughout  the  food  chain  and  the  activities  and
      practices  that  must  be  performed  in  order  to
      establish  and  maintain  a  hygienic  environment.
      PRPs  must  be  suitable  and  be  capable  of
      producing  safe  end  products  and  providing  food
      that is safe for human consumption.  PRPs support
      HACCP plans.

      PRPs  are  also  referred  to  as  good  hygienic
      practices,   good  agricultural  practices,  good
      production practices,  good manufacturing practices,
