The 2019 New York and New Jersey AGD Picnic
On September 22, 2019, the New York and New Jersey AGD hosted a picnic in Alpine, NJ for our members to come and join us
for a day of food, fun and family. We played games like egg race and volleyball, and we even had arts and crafts for the kids! It
was our first time joining forces to bring our members together since many of our members either live or work in New Jersey. We
are looking to make this an annual event on a rotating bases between the two states, so please don’t miss out on our 2020 Picnic!
From the Desk of the NYSAGD Public Information Officer- Binod K. Verma, DDS
Most of our members do not know the purpose of the NYSAGD Public Information Officer (PIO) and its committee. It is a tool
for our membership to educate the public on the importance of oral health and its relationship to overall health. In the past we have
conducted programs in conjunction with the American Diabetic Society. We have also held oral cancer screening events.
This year PIO members visited two public schools in New York City for oral screenings and oral health education to children under
the age of 14. This summer the PIO also participated in a radio program in the Bronx on the basics of oral health. As a member ben-
efit program, the PIO held a com-
plimentary dinner and educational
program on the early diagnosis and
prevention of pre-cancerous and
cancerous lesions of the oral cavi-
ty. Dr. John Fantasia from the Oral
Pathology department of the North
Shore LIJ Health System lectured
on the diagnosis and treatment of
actual cases. He emphasized the fact
that the key is early diagnosis. Den-
tists can save many lives if they are
properly trained in early diagnosis.
