Do NOT let panic take a hold of you. It is NOT
conducive to anything productive.
The people I worked with in the Legal Abuse
Syndrome Support Group talked about feelings of
rage, "beyond rage," guilt, shame, helplessness,
hopelessness, isolation, hyper-vigilance,
numbness, dissociation, disorientation...
Dr. Huffer stated that it is difficult to name feelings
for people who suffer from Legal Abuse Syndrome,
as there is no word that is strong enough to
describe the feelings. Everything is “beyond”
whatever feeling can be qualified.
I remember calling Dr. Huffer after receiving yet
another motion to attend yet another court
hearing and telling her, “I am beyond rage again.”
Speaking to a person who understood and could
get me to a calmer state was extremely helpful.
Since LAS is complex, there may be layers upon
layers of unprocessed feelings. Debrief one event
after another.
You might feel many other emotions, such as
feeling uncomfortable, uneasy, embarrassed,
bored, impatient, distressed, apprehensive,
terrified, concerned, scared, worried, annoyed,
